What does the number 24 mean in biblical terms?
The number twelve has significance for the Jews because it is the number of sons of Jacob, and therefore the number of the tribes of Israel. That may even be why Jesus selected twelve apostles.
The number 24 only has significance in the book of the Revelation, where mention is made of “twenty-four elders.” These elders most likely represent the church as represented by the twelve tribes of Israel (or the twelve sons of Jacob) and the twelve apostles. Every time they are mentioned the book describes them as falling on their faces and worshipping God. So the only real significance we can get from that number is that we ought to be humbling ourselves and praising God.
