What Does the Bible Say About..Blessing God?

I'm trying to understand what is the right way to say “bless you God.” I read in the Bible that God likes to be blessed. Tell what it means.

Answer

Most of the time the Bible talks about God (or people) blessing people. Occasionally, though, it does talk about blessing God. In the Old Testament, the word is the Hebrew, barach. The Jews have hundreds of specific blessings, called berachot, they use to bless God. The usual format is “Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the Universe, who …” and may continue with the specific blessing, such as “gives us bread from the earth.” In the New Testament the word is based on a Greek word (from which we get our word “eulogy”) that is generally translated “praise.”

There is no set way to bless or praise God. Whatever your heart feels, express it to God and that is usually a blessing. However, if you are not accustomed to blessing God and want to learn how then you should read the book of Psalms. King David and the other writers of the psalms frequently bless God, and we would do well to learn how they did it.
