What Does the Bible Say About..Dreaming of the Rapture?

If I had a dream, that I caused the rapture, and I got left behind...what does that mean?

Answer

If you dreamed that you caused the rapture and were left behind, it probably means that you have been reading too much fiction or watching some fantasy movies. Even under most “rapture” theories, nobody causes the rapture. If you dream you were left behind, that probably means that you subconsciously think that there is some spiritual matter than you need more work on.

The reason I specifically mentioned reading too much fiction is that the whole “left behind” phenomenon is pure fiction. The Bible teaches that there will be nobody left behind. When Jesus comes to judge the world, everyone will be judged at the same time. In fact, the one passage that (in Latin) uses the term “rapture,” which means “caught up,” teaches that all will be taken at the same time to be judged.

“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18)

This passage says everyone will go at the same time. I fail to see how rapture theorists use it to try to teach two different times.

I wouldn’t worry too much about such a dream. If you had been reading Harry Potter you could just as easily have dreamed about being hit by a levitation spell or something. It is not unusual to dream about something that has been on your mind. The only thing you might worry about would be whether you feel you need work in your spiritual life. If so, then that is the first step toward making changes.
