What Does the Bible Say About..Lesbians, and Executing Homosexuals?

What about the laws in the Old Testament that command the execution of homosexuals? Do the laws of Israel still bind on us today? Should the government kill all gay people?

What does the bible say about lesbians?

Answer

You ask do the laws of Israel (particularly concerning people who commit homosexual acts) still bind us today? Well, they have never bound me, because I am not Jewish. The laws you mention were specifically part of the Law of Moses, that was specifically for the Jewish nation. That Jewish nation has not existed as a nation for centuries. Certainly the nation of Israel that now exists has no relationship to that nation other than by ethnicity, not by law. For most of the world today the laws of which you speak were never binding. Since the government of the United States is not bound by those laws, then they should not be killing all gay people unless they pass a law making homosexual acts a capital crime. That is not likely to happen in today's political climate.

The Bible says a lot about men who commit homosexual acts, but very little about lesbians. Some would try to say that the restrictions apply to both. Many Jewish scholars don't look on lesbianism as negatively as they do homosexual acts between men. There is only one passage which may specifically speak of lesbians. That is Romans 1:26-27: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet."
